New Publication - Characterization of a silica-PVA hybrid for high density and stable silver dissolution

Work led by Bryce Dorin, a PhD student associated with the OMS group, has led to a new publication in Materials Chemistry and Physics (Volume 177, page 19). Bryce is seeking to develop new materials and approaches to use femtosecond laser processing techniques to make conductive tracks within insulating material.

Lab Progress - first data

Welcome to Arturo!

A warm welcome to Arturo, who joins the group from San Luis Potosi in Mexico on a CONACyT-funded PhD program. Arturo will be focussing on the optical and electronic spectroscopy of semiconductor nanowires, and is supervised by Patrick Parkinson and Prof Phil Dawson in the School of Physics and Astronomy.

Conference - ICONN 2016

Patrick has given a talk at ICONN 2016 (the International Conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology), held in Canberra, Australia. The conference had sessions focussing on nanophotonics, nanomaterials, nanocharacterisation, nanoelectronics and commercialisation/safety issues. Lab Progress - Laser up and running

The laser engineer has got the laser up and running. Hopefully the OPA’s will be ready by the end of tomorrow. 1.45W at 250kHz, 800nm with 205fs autocorrelation (117fs transform-limited duration); we’re running above specifications with a peak power of ~48MW.

The laser is now in place, ready for installation in the new lab space. The overhead tables and wiring are good, and we are just waiting for the laser technicians to arrive to complete the installation.

UK III-V Nanowire meeting

Patrick attended the UK III-V Nanowire meeting at Corpus Christi College, Oxford to discuss recent work in the nanowire field with colleagues from across the UK. Lab progress

The setup for the new micro pump-probe, scanning photoluminescence and photocurrent microscopy and non-linear microscopy system is progressing. The tables are installed, and gantries fixed – next for the laser commissioning.

Goodbye to MPhys students

A goodbye to Dylan Maxwell and David Barcons who have completed their S7 MPhys project. They worked together to develop non-equilibrium carrier dynamics modelling in nanowires, and to couple this to experimental measurements using TCSPC. Thanks Dylan and David!
