If you are interested in pursuing research or gaining research experience with our group, a number of options are available.

Postdoctoral Positions : At present, no funded postdoctoral positions are available. However we welcome applications for visiting fellowships, such as EPSRC Doctoral Prize fellowships, the Newton Fund or through Marie-Curie Fellowships if applicable.

PhD studies: All applications for PhD study should be made through the University system; please contact Dr Parkinson for informal discussion before applying.

Home students: Can apply for an EPSRC funded PhD position, which is competatively funded from a central allocation in the Physics Department. We also offer projects for the Graphene Centre for Doctoral Training.

Overseas students: We welcome funded applications from overseas students. Manchester offers limited (and competatively funded) financial support for overseas PhD applications – options include:

Visiting postgraduate students: If you wish to visit the group and spend time researching with us, please note that the University has now implemented a strict policy available online.

Undergraduate placements: We occasionally offer summer placement to Manchester-based undergraduates through schemes such as the Rank Prize funds. Unfortunately, due to the costs of research and the time required for safety training, we cannot host unsolicited, unfunded or overseas applicants.

Under-18 summer placements: Due to H&S restrictions, we cannot offer any placements or research experience to pre-undergraduate level. You may wish to look at the Physics department’s dedicated pages.
