New Publication - Characterization of a silica-PVA hybrid for high density and stable silver dissolution

Work led by Bryce Dorin, a PhD student associated with the OMS group, has led to a new publication in Materials Chemistry and Physics (Volume 177, page 19).

Silver wires written within the bulk of the new PVA-Silica-Silver Nitrate composite.

Bryce is seeking to develop new materials and approaches to use femtosecond laser processing techniques to make conductive tracks within insulating material. By mixing PVA with sol-gel silica and silver nitrate, he showed good silver solubility along with femtosecond processibility.

At present, the wires formed are made of dense regions of silver nanoparticles. Next steps include finding ways to make these wires completely conducting.
