Patrick was external examiner for Zizhuo Liu, a PhD candidate in Prof. Huiyun Liu‘s group at University College London. Zizhuo defended his thesis entitled “High-performance III-V Quantum structures and devices grown on Si substrates”.

Physics and applications of semiconductor nanowire lasers - book chapter published

Patrick has contributed a chapter to the new textbook “Semiconductor Nanodevices“, edited by Prof. David Ritchie (University of Cambridge) and published by Elsevier. In his chapter on Physics and Applications of Semiconductor Nanowire Lasers, common features, design rules, seminal works and an outlook for future development are provided.

Patrick gave a remote invited talk in the Low Dimensional Materials and Devices session of SPIE 2021, hybrid hosted in San Diego. He spoke about “High-throughput spectroscopy of semiconductor nanowires in the presence of inhomogeneity“ including new material from group members.

New Lasers in the Photon Science Institute

The group have received and comissioned a new ultrafast laser system courtesy of an EPSRC World-Class Labs grant! The new system, a 20W PHAROS/ORPHEUS-HP can provide tunable 250fs laser pulses from 315nm to 16,000nm at pulse energies up to 10microjoules and repetition rates of 200kHz.
