New Paper: Modal refractive index measurement in nanowire lasers - a correlative approach

SI-HashMatch
a) A scatter plot of >15000 nanowires spread across several millimetres. b) A successful match between electron microscopy and optical microscopy is shown.

The group has had a paper accepted in the IOP journal Nano Futures entitled Modal refractive index measurement in nanowire lasers – a correlative approach.

In this work, image processing and registration techniques from astronomy have been adapted to allow marker-free identification of single nanowire using multiple approaches. We have demonstrated this methodology by matching high spatial resolution electron microscopy to functional studies using optical spectroscopy, matching individual wires with a high degree of certainty over a population of >15000.

Through this correlative approach, we have determined a hard-to-measure parameter – the modal refractive index of nanolaser.
